  1. When do the next series of classes start for MITs?
MIT classes are offered on a rolling basis through the Kingdom Life Institute (KLI). MITs may simply start with whatever course is currently being offered, with the exception of those courses having prerequisites. Courses will be offered on Wednesday evenings (starting fall 2009), on Sunday mornings, and periodic Saturday seminars. Some classes may be taken for MIT credit at external academic institutions while others must be taken at “The Park”. See the MIT Leadership track curriculum for more information.

  2. How often will new MITs be admitted to the program?
New MITs will be admitted to the program twice per year in January and September starting in 2010. Details will be provided via Kingdom Citizen News (KCN) and the Sunday Bulletin.

  3. How long does MIT training last?
The MIT training program takes approximately 18 to 24 months to complete, assuming all required courses are completed.

  4. What are the overall requirements for being conferred a ministerial license at the Park?
The high level requirements for being conferred a ministerial license at the Park include:
    • Demonstration of Godly character, humility, and a servant’s heart
    • Completing the application and interview process with a positive recommendation from the MIT interview team and Counseling Ministry
    • Favorable background and reference checks
    • Successfully completing all MIT training requirements
    • The public preaching of an initial sermon

  5. Is there a financial cost associated with the classes or the program in general?
There will be a per semester cost to MITs to complete the program. Scholarships may be available based upon financial need.

  6. Which particular aspects of ministry can a licensed minister perform / not perform?
A minister licensed by University Park Baptist Church may teach and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ as opportunities are presented to exercise one’s gifts. One’s ministerial license is granted under the auspices of UPBC and may not be accepted by other churches or religious organizations. UPBC may also suspend or revoke a ministerial license if one’s character and integrity are not reflective of the Bible and the vision of UPBC.

Licensed, unordained ministers may not perform baptisms, weddings, or funerals.

  7. Will I be assigned a mentor?
While mentors are not formally assigned, the MIT Interview team will provide encouragement and support for each MIT’s development throughout the training process. Feel free to contact the team members who interviewed you with any questions, concerns, feedback, and prayer requests. Our goal is to foster positive relationships within our ministry team that extend up to and beyond the conferring of a ministerial license.

  8. Upon licensure, what are the responsibilities/expectations for ministers of the Park?
A MIT handbook is currently being developed that will identify responsibilities and expectations for ministers of the Park. MITs are expected to regularly attend Sunday morning worship, monthly communion services, revivals, and other special services such as pastoral anniversaries. MITs should be actively involved in the Kingdom Life Institute. MITs are also expected to serve in decision counseling for at least one Sunday per month. MITs may choose the service for which they support decision counseling.

  9. What are the criteria for ordination at the Park?
Currently, to be ordained by the Park Ministries, one must be called to serve by another church or organization in a capacity for which ordination is essential.

  10. As an MIT, am I required to enroll in Bible College or Seminary?
There is currently no requirement for MITs to enroll in Bible College or Seminary.
