Life Mission Recap

By Revered Bill Knight

“Mission’s is not a solo activity, but teamwork; are you fit for the field?” (Dr. Black)

Dr. Black focused on the impact and influence of our personalities on missions.  She challenged the audience with the question; are you willing to go and do what God has called you to do?  Dr. Black stressed that after answering the call, we must live ready to be on assignment, by keeping our lives in order and to know our personalities before we go, after we have been there, and after returning.

Dr. Black’s presentation was powerful because she dealt with how our knowledge of self as well as how we communicate with others, can cause or resolve conflict in our roles as missionary.  She shared connections between bridge building, relationships, spiritual growth, sacrificial giving and unconditional love for God and his people. Understanding these connections impacts the team.  It is important to understand and value the personality traits of one’s team and how it impacts the way they communicate, resolves conflict and leads others. We were charged to take note of what God is saying and then transfer his words to the heart.  She also reminded us that although ministry is inconvenient, mission is a lifestyle and ministry is missions. Participants were instructed to ROAR (recognize, observe, accept and realize) how the personalities God gave us can be used to his glory. In addition, we were challenged to grow through missions by showing up and being available for training. Dr. Black stated that this pleases God and builds relationships.

Here are a few tips to help you expand your view of global missions:

  1. Continually be encouraged to recognize their unique role and purpose.
  2. Actively embrace and participate in the Great Commission as a lifestyle.
  3. Be faithful and obedient to God’s word.
  4. Open the doors of information and training as opportunities to grow and make disciples for the Kingdom.
  5. Give if your time, talents and treasures—not just to do well but to end well!Rev. Knight
